Travel with Big Red

However the weather was very variable and although it was often sunny in the valley, the highest mountains remained elusive under the bubbling cloud - very atmospheric and gleaming white with the fresh snow that fell practically every afternoon (rain in the valley!!) - but not the best conditions for detailed drawings of the peaks!

We had a good walk up to La Flegere ski station in very warm sunshine and located a fine drawing spot - but not for this trip as Mt Blanc and the Chamonix Auguilles tantalised amongst the clouds.

Finally, waking to a clear, fine morning, with signs of the cloud lifting from Les Drus, we made a dash for the train to Montenvers. Two hours and two drawings later, cloud descended once more. Weather forecasts for all of France promised more cloud and rain so we decided reluctantly to cut our losses and come back again later in the summer, on our way to the Dolomites, when the weather in the mountains should be more settled! Watch this space!
