Monotype: step-by-step

Each monotype is unique. A second print can be taken from the same plate if enough ink remains - the second state or ghost print. The image produced is also unique, although related to the first.

My drawings focus on structure in the landscape but light and weather are just as important in conveying the mood of a place.

Making monotypes enables me to express the ephemeral, changing qualities I observe - a peak glimpsed through storm clouds, a ridge dematerialising in rising cloud, the hint of a massive form veiled in light and mist.

I make my prints at Northern Print in Newcastle upon Tyne.
